The Kentucky Derby – not an event you think of when perusing Hamptons to Hollywood, because, well, it takes place in Kentucky. But not one to let the southern belles and bros have all the fun, Los Angeles throws its own annual celebration honoring the famed equestrian pastime.
This year, Derby Day LA kicked off at Will Rogers Polo Club; a private club nestled serenely in Pacific Palisades. The event, which brought out some of LA’s most eclectically fanciful residents, offered perfectly Instagrammable outdoor decor and a special VIP tent with culinary offerings from Sushi Roku and Boa Steakhouse. The VIP area also included unlimited cocktails (and yes, of course we HAD to try a traditional mint julep, just because) and champagne to give that extra little touch of class.
And the fashion. O M G, the fashion. Ladies were decked out in hats so ostentatious you’d have thought it was the royal wedding. And we loved every second of it. I brought along my partner in crime, model Jewel Farshad, and we were even nominated for Best Dressed Couple at the event, because hello, our color scheme was pretty on point (despite me choosing and ruffling over hundreds of flower girl dresses).
Derby Day LA was a huge success and as always, we made a slew of great friends, ate the best food, and there was never a dull moment. Stay tuned for the location on next year’s venue for Derby Day LA and stay tuned for what other activities we’re getting ourselves into.
